Artifact of Abstract Machine_AAM #1

“A simulation or model of life, where we can see the effect before taking the action…. It is a tool for turning inspiration into fruitful prediction.”

-Charles and Ray Eames | The Information Machine

Goals
-To develop a complex 3D model.
-To further develop a concept using digital tools and realize the design with a physical model.

Protocol
Generate a vertical sculptural form (the artifact) using Rhino.  A concept generates a form and a form generates a concept. Bernard Tschumi said that a concept-form remains untested when it remains without a site. Having no site, AAM will be a sculptural study adaptive to any environment.  The methods of form generation are: Repetition, Transformation, Datum, Rhythm, Symmetry, Void, Volume/thickness and so forth. We will not use any conventional conceptual dimensions such as points, lines, and surfaces.

Constraints: The form cannot exceed a volume of 6"x6"x24". In your Rhino file, you will create a box to indicate your AM is within the virtual box.

Material: 2 ply museum board only.

Schedule
Due on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the beginning of class. Submit the physical model and upload three high quality images of your model to the class blog.
